Business Development Manager

    Playing a key role within UMAYA’s leadership team, the successful candidate will report to both the Principal and Director. This position necessitates both a proactive and adaptive mindset to stay ahead of a rapidly evolving and hyper-competitive Middle East marketplace. Seizing the initiative alongside an ability to act beyond a job description will be hallmarks of the ideal candidate. The job will involves the following roles/responsibilities

    Identifying, connecting and building legitimate relationships with key decision-making influences across local, regional and international:

    • Project Management Firms
    • Architectural & Engineering Design Studios
    • Real Estate and Hospitality Advisory Firms
    • Real Estate Development Firms
    • Public/Semi-Gov Real Estate Development Firms
    • Retailers

    From a commercial standpoint, the successful candidate will be charged with:

    • Soliciting a flow of validated RFP enquiries from their network of pre-existing or newly establish client relationships.
    • Coordinating with internal technical resources/colleagues to compile to generate/submit fee proposals on-time.
    • Managing routine follow-up activities to ensure UMAYA fee proposals:
    • Achieve the desired client scope of work
    • Fit within clients budgetary parameters
    • Are ‘in the race’ to be considered
    • Conducting commercial/contractual negotiations with clients to negotiate/ scopes of work, fees et al

    Developing customer-specific presentations and/or related marketing material expressing UMAYA’s value proposition to key decision-influencers/makers.
    • A regular series of marketing material (brochures, website management/development, e-marketing program) ought to be managed to properly convey the strength, experience and diversity of UMAYA’s
    • Lighting design services/capabilities/geographies
    • Portfolio of completed projects

    Coordination with UMAYA’s digital agency to ensure the website, SEO activities and social media presence are managed on-brand and routinely updated.

    Participate in industry events – Architecture, I.D and Landscape events, in addition to more sector-specific events – to ensure UMAYA is continually exposed to key decision-makers/influencers.

    Preparing RFP pipeline reports for presentation to management team on a monthly basis.

    Desired Skills and Experience

    The ideal candidate will:

    Hold a degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Engineering and/or Business/Marketing. 
    • Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in marketing, business development and/or bid preparation.

    Have a firm understanding of the overall architectural design process/RIBA stages:
    • Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience within the lighting, architectural and/or engineering design disciplines as well as an understanding of LEED, WELL, BREEAM, ESTIDAMA etc.
    • Candidates with exposure to strategic business development roles within the lighting manufacturing and/or related high-quality architectural supply segments will be considered.

    • Demonstrate fluency and comfort in the use of design software including Revit, Photoshop and Sketch-up.
    • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the use of Dialux, Agi32, Lumion and/or graphic arts software etc.

    • Confidence in interpersonal communication, presentation and relationship-building will be hallmarks of the successful candidate. The successful candidate will be expected to socialize ‘productively’ with clients; as and when the opportunity demands.

    • Spoken fluency in multiple languages will always be an advantage in a city (Dubai!) that appreciates diversity.

    • Candidates must thrive in high-pressure environments where targets are expected to be pursued relentlessly. Of utmost importance is that candidates be thick-skinned, persistent, independent and have an ability to contextualize strategy and strategize potential context.
