Lighting Director
We are seeking a director to join our dynamic lighting team – a collective of artists, product designers, engineers, theatre designers and architects, offering a vibrant diversity of skills.
Collaboration, conceptual integrity and sustainability are central to our philosophy and are holistically fostered from concept through to final evaluation. Our experience spans the full gamut of lighting design and we are established market leaders in retail, heritage, leisure, education, libraries, workplace, public realm, art and art galleries, exterior architecture, environmental impact assessments and daylight design. Our expertise is widely sought by professional bodies through contributions to publications, seminars and event and we aim to inspire and influence through our design and thought leadership. Sustainability is rooted in our humanist approach and acknowledgement of our impact on the global community. Our focus is not only on the climate emergency and carbon reduction but on the wider issues of the circular economy and health and wellbeing.
About the role
Strong design principles and skills are key to our success. These must be underpinned by strong commercial performance and business management.
The Lighting Director will be responsible for the ensuring the successful operation of the lighting team through implementation of management tools and processes. Commercial, project management and performance are key deliverables for this role. Contract negotiation to minimise risk and maximise profit will be a major factor in the success of the role.
About you
• degree qualified, preferably to masters level, in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
• a track record of winning work and evidence of client satisfaction
• proven commercial acumen
• have a broad experience of the industry, detailed knowledge of lighting design and a keen interest in sustainable environmental solutions
• results-focused, enjoy challenging opportunities, have a positive attitude and are resourceful. You will have a high degree of integrity, professional ethics, respect and sense of responsibility
• strong collaborative skills to work as part of a leadership team
• exemplary written and verbal communication skills

Assistant Lighting Designer

BDP Lighting delivers people centred designs. Teamwork, concept development and collaboration are at the heart of our working methods and we are firmly committed to the sustainability of our environment. We have an opportunity within our London office for a suitably qualified individual to join our team at junior level and be part of a wide range of exciting projects.
About you
The ideal candidate will have 3+ years’ experience in a lighting design consultancy and proficiency in all relevant software packages. Knowledge of daylight design and 3D drafting will be advantageous. You will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to develop and illustrate lighting concepts from internal briefings, through to completion. Ideally, the successful candidate will be a graduate (or equivalent) with a 2:1 or above degree. Skills in Photoshop, InDesign and AutoCAD are required. Knowledge of lighting calculations, daylight design, Revit and 3D CAD will be advantageous.
You will demonstrate a collaborative team-working style and enjoy working to tight deadlines. You will be able to work effectively with people from all backgrounds and have excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
