Certification in Lighting design or certification related to architecture / design.
Computer programs: Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Photoshop, Dialux EVO,Enscape, D5, AutoCAD, Lumio, AGI, 3Ds Max, SKetch Up, Daysim, Rhino.
Ability to prioritize/time management skills.

Senior Associates, Associates, Senior Lighting Designers – Oxfordshire, London and Dubai Studios

We are looking for creative and technically knowledgeable Senior Associates, Associates and Senior Lighting Designers to join our studios in Oxfordshire, London, and Dubai. Excellent written and spoken English is essential.

Senior Associates, Associates and Senior Lighting Designers:

Responsibilities would include, working within a team environment on all aspects of the lighting design process, from concept to completion, attending design and site meetings in the UK or UAE and overseas, as well as supervising the work of lighting designers within the studio. Candidates should have a strong portfolio of completed exterior and interior projects. IT skills must include Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, InDesign, Photoshop and DIALux. Knowledge of BIM/Revit would be beneficial but not essential.

Only applicants with professional independent lighting design experience will be considered.

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and includes bonus opportunities. The Dubai position enjoys a tax free environment subject to personal taxation circumstances.

Senior Lighting Designer and Lighting Designer

Our projects are almost exclusively very high-end residential and super yachts. We work internationally on some of the largest, most complex and incredible homes and yachts in the world. Alongside internationally recognised architects, yacht designers and interior designers. Due to the privacy of our work, most go unseen in the public realm. Projects may range from a private car museum to a 180-meter super yacht. Attention to detail and creating the most beautiful spaces are the driving factors in our projects.

 Our creative designers role is to inspire our clients with beautiful concepts and then help bring those ideas to reality through the production of high-quality design information and excellent communication. With the support of our technical design team and project managers. The right candidate will need to be passionate about lighting and design, show very high attention to detail and importantly have good creative flair.

 You will be working alongside our established creative designers both in our Lambeth based Creative design team as well as with our technical lighting design team and our project managers. Projects are international and so some travel is to be expected. The role will be hybrid office and working from home. Although for the initial probation period we would expect a high level of office based work with colleagues to ensure a good introduction and interface with the team. Our design studio is based in Lambeth, with a head office in Kent, an experience centre on Great Portland Street, and Monaco.

 Candidates must have a good working knowledge of  AutoCAD, Photoshop and Dialux. IT equipment/laptop provided by the company. Competitive Salary and benefits packages are available, dependent on the successful candidate’s individual experience.

Lighting Designer

Stileman Lighting Design is a small multi-disciplined lighting design consultancy working on prestigious projects around the world. We have been operating for 10 years and are looking to expand to support new project demands.

Our work is mainly focused in the high-end residential field as well as restaurants, retail and hotels. We also develop bespoke lighting fixtures for these projects and for an exciting upcoming collection.

Lighting Designer

We are looking for creative candidates with a passion for design who are able to work collaboratively as part of a small team. Lighting design experience preferred, ideally a couple of years in the industry. Candidates without experience but with a lighting qualification will also be considered.

Team members are involved from the conception of a project through detailed design, project management and final commissioning.

Candidates must be well versed in AutoCAD, InDesign, Photoshop, MS Office, Dialux and must also have excellent spoken and written English. Eligibility to work in the UK is essential.

The opportunity.

As part of the successful integration of the Light Perceptions team into CBG as CBG Light Perceptions we are seeking to appoint an experienced Principal Lighting Designer to play an important part in the planned growth of this well-established team and the company.

The candidate will have experience of leading a strong team, managing resources efficiently, meeting deadlines across multiple projects, and have a proven track record of delivering substantial technical lighting projects at senior level.

They will be confident attending face to face, and remote meetings with clients, architects, engineers and contractors on projects across the UK and occasionally overseas. 

As a designer they will have well rounded experience across all sectors although experience in heritage buildings would be a distinct advantage.

What will you do?

You will be working closely with other team members seeing projects through from inception to completion and handover.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Leading project surveys
  • Producing feasibility study and concept design reports
  • Producing project design documentation and specifications
  • On-site inspection and contract administration
  • Witnessing and overseeing the commissioning of completed schemes
  • Managing client handover meetings

What we are looking for.

Essential:

  • A minimum of ten years experience in a professional lighting design role
  • A knowledge if historic buildings work and common practices  
  • Track record of working with clients, architects, surveyors, contractors and other stakeholders
  • Delivery of small and medium projects semi autonomously, with limited supervision
  • Up to date knowledge of SLL Guidelines and common lighting standards
  • A collaborative and inquisitive approach, with enthusiasm for new ideas, good initiative, and excellent communication skills
  • Thorough technical knowledge of lighting design software, Microsoft office and AutoCad
  • Driving license and vehicle is strongly beneficial due to the remote locations of many project sites

Desirable:

    • Knowledge/use of Revit software is an advantage

Job Description

UMAYA’s on the lookout for a well-rounded and experienced Senior Lighting Designer to join our Dubai studio. Our ideal candidates are not only inspired by light and lighting, but equally passionate delivering their work on time, on budget and with a lot of fun throughout the process. UMAYA multi-disciplinary team works on some of the most intriguing, challenging and award-winning large-scale developments with projects that cut across a diverse range of typologies, scopes and geographies.

Requirements:

-           University degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Lighting Design, Product Design, Theatrical Design and Electrical Engineering.

-           Minimum 5 years’ experience in an independent lighting design consultancy with at least 2 years as lead lighting designer on large scale projects within the Middle East.

-           Excellent communication skills; both verbally and in writing.

-           Proactive project management skills with particular focus on time and task management.

-           Ability to meet strict deadlines and resource allocation.

-           Strong technical knowledge about luminaires, accessories, and lighting controls.

We are based in Hoxton, which is easily accessible and an exciting place to work amongst other creative professionals. Our office is bright and light with good coffee, diverse places to eat, and spaces where we can test light fittings and hold meetings on-line or in person.

About you:

We are interested in candidates who are creative, innovative and able to work collaboratively. Experience in lighting design is preferred but not essential. In our experience lighting designers start their careers from a variety of creative backgrounds, so we are keen to hear your reason for wanting to work with us as a lighting designer and understand how you would fit within our team.

Experience in the use of lighting design software is an essential part of the role, we use Dialux and we would require you to be able to use this software from the start of your employment. The use of Sketch-up, AutoCAD, Revit and other 3D design packages are all part of our design process. Whilst we do not expect you to be proficient in all of these programmes, your ability to work creatively between software types will enable you to work technically and creatively as part of the LAPD design team.

We also use the Adobe Creative Suite. Experience in the use of Photoshop and Indesign is required to allow clear and effective communication.

Your skills:

  • Degree or educational background in Architecture/ Architectural Engineering/ Design / Engineering or related field.
  • Experience of working for a lighting consultancy or with a manufacturer would be beneficial.
  • Proficiency in English with good verbal, interpersonal and writing skills. Any other language skills are a bonus and add to our potential for global communication.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Organisational and time management skills.
  • Creativity, enthusiasm and technical awareness of architecture, engineering, light and lighting.

The role:

The projects we work on are global and varied in scale and type. As a new designer you will work in a support role for the senior design team. At times this will require you to meet with clients and project design teams. On occasions you will attend meetings face-to-face and go to site with a senior designer. We will always try to engage you in the hands-on experience of lighting design and in doing so we will expose you to different types of project experiences as they occur.

In your role you will work with all of the senior members of the team at different moments on different projects, this will help to give you a full understanding of the projects we work upon and an opportunity for us to understand where you excel.

Our design team work flexibly from the office and from home. We are happy for you to work from home for up-to 2 days of your working week. We believe it is particularly important at the start of your career to spend time working alongside others so that you can gain awareness and knowledge that may otherwise be difficult to communicate.

LIGHTING DESIGNER
Ideal candidates must have at least 2 years’ experience in the lighting design industry. Although not essential, a lighting qualification would be preferred, along with a passion for design. You will be proficient in AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign and MS Office. Knowledge of Revit would be an advantage. You will be motivated, enthusiastic and able to thrive under pressure.

Dark Source Reflections - The Vessel

The Vessel is a charity project developed in collaboration with the Vessel UK, Daughters of Africa Foundation and Dark Source. The project was focused on training 30 local electricians in Gambia about lighting design and solar energy to increase their employment potential. Following the technical training, the project was finalised with the practical installation of the solar-based lighting scheme at the community library in Abuko. The aim of the project was to improve the studying experience of the students, while eliminating the power cuts and costs indefinitely.
