STUDIO OLAFUR ELIASSON'S LITTLE SUN INSTALLATION TO SHINE AT DARC ROOM

(UK) - Little Sun, the social business founded by Olafur Eliasson, will be showing their Sunlight Graffiti installation at this year's darc room exhibition, part of London Design Festival.

The interactive installation will allow visitors to create their own Sunlight Graffiti images with a Little Sun solar lamp. Sunlight Graffiti is a microcosmos of the Little Sun project, where one can feel, in a creative, playful and mindful way, the impact he or she can have on their immmediate physical surrounding just by putting solar light into action.

Felix Hallwachs, CEO at Little Sun, will also be talking at the exhibition as part of the darc thoughts lecture programme that also includes Dutch artist and innovator Daan RoosegaardeCroatian Lighting Designer, Dean Skira; Daniel Stromborg, Product Designer at Gensler USA; and Kerem Asfuroglu, Lighting Designer at Speirs + Major.

Hallwachs said: “We all have to learn how to live and act more sustainably and how to share the energy of the earth and the sun. Together, we have to find solutions for our future. Little Sun is a social business that brings solar energy to people living off the grid, so that kids can study, read, and play after dark – without toxic kerosene lamps.”

Olafur Eliasson, Founder of Little Sun, explained: “Light is for everyone – it determines what we do and how we do it. This is why we have developed the solar-powered lamp Little Sun. One part of the artwork is the lamp and the activities it enables. The other is the successful distribution of Little Sun in off-grid communities, its journey from production to usage.”

Frederik Ottesen, Co-Founder of Little Sun, commented: “Little Sun is much more than a beautiful solar lamp. Ultimately, Little Sun is a large-scale solar energy provider, our portable lamp being the first in a long line of products we are developing to make clean, reliable, affordable solar energy easily accessible to everyone.”

darc room will take place at B1, a unique 22,000 sqm space in Victoria House, Bloomsbury Square, central London, from September 21st – 23rd 2017 as part of London Design Festival.

The exhibition will consist of leading lighting manufacturers displaying their latest products, light installations and a series of lectures tackling lighting design, technology, sustainability and architecture.

Participants include alphaLED, Anolis, Applelec, ATEA, atelier sedap, Bright Green, DARK, David Trubridge, Delta Light, EcoLED, EcoSense, Electric Bench, Enigma, Exenia, Factorylux, Forma, Lamp Lighting, LED Linear, Lightly Technologies, Linea Light, Luci LED, Lumenpulse, Megaman, molo, Optelma, Radiant, Reggiani, Soraa, tossB, Targetti, Turnlights, WILA and Xicato.

DARC ROOM OFFICIALLY PART OF LONDON DESIGN FESTIVAL

(UK) - darc room, London's creative, curated lighting specification exhibition officially part of London Design Festival on 21-23 September.

darc room has been formally accepted by London Design Festival as part of its 2017 program. The lighting specification exhibition will take place at B1, Victoria House, Holborn in central London on 21-23 September.

Paul James, director of darc room and publishing editor of mondo*arc and darc magazines, commented: “This is fantastic news for darc room and for the exhibitors. We are sometimes guilty of talking to ourselves in the lighting industry. Our goal, both in our publishing and our events, is to broaden the conversation to other designers who do not work with lighting every day but nevertheless are involved in the lighting specification process. Being involved in London Design Festival will allow us to meet a wide range of designers and specifiers, not just those ensconced in lighting.”

darc room is organised by mondo*arc and darc magazines in collaboration with design consultants Light Collective. It will offer a unique way for exhibitors to show their products and for visitors to learn about lighting with special pods made from OSB board. In addition to the exhibitors, the venue in central London offers a magnificent canvas for light installations from darc night, the darc awards / architectural event as well as some exciting examples of light art and inspirational speakers from the design community.

Exhibitors so far include Anolis, Applelec, ATEA, atelier sedan, DARK, Delta Light, EcoLED, EcoSense, Enigma, Filix, Forma, Lamp Lighting, LED Linear, Linea Light, LG OLED, Luci LED, Lumenpulse, molo, Optelma, Radiant, Reggiani, Soraa, tossB, Turnlights, WILA and Xicato.

The darc night installations on show at darc room will involve lighting designs from ACT, Arup, DPA, Elektra, Lichtvision, Lighting Design International, Michael Grubb Studio and Visual Energy.

Anyone interested in participating in darc room should contact Paul James on p.james@mondiale.co.uk.
